READ, UNDERSTAND & COMPARE
Understand Hanuman Chalisa one section at a time. This guide pairs the complete Hindi reference text with newly prepared English meanings, explains difficult words, and shows how the two prayers differ.

How to use this guide
- Read the opening doha or dohas, then the numbered main verses, and finish with the closing doha.
- Compare the Hindi wording with the English meaning beneath it. This is a meaning translation, not a metrical English version for chanting.
- Use the separate audio player to repeat a section. Its synthetic Hindi speech is an approximate pronunciation aid, not a teacher-certified recitation.
- Use the glossary when a name or traditional term is unfamiliar. Consult a trusted teacher or edition for differences in interpretation.
AI-assisted editorial study translation; professional native-language and scholarly review remain pending. Ambiguous wording is marked. Religious promises are presented as claims within the prayer, rather than guarantees of medical, financial or other outcomes.

Pronunciation and transliteration notes
The prayer’s original devotional wording is preserved when it is written in another script. Transliteration represents sound; translation explains meaning. An English meaning should not be mistaken for the original recitation.
- Long vowels such as ā, ī and ū are held longer than their short counterparts.
- Marks such as ṭ and ḍ distinguish tongue positions that ordinary English spelling does not capture well.
- In the marked Latin transliteration, ś and ṣ are both commonly approximated with an “sh” sound, though they are not identical in careful pronunciation.
- Roman spellings vary: Hanuman/Hanumān and Baan/Bāṇ are examples. Compare the Hindi text and a trusted recitation when unsure.
- Mantra syllables should be read as invocations. This guide does not assign them invented literal translations.
